A relaxed Chicago elopement from City Hall to the Gold Coast
Eloping at Chicago City Hall is one of the most intimate ways to get married in Chicago. It’s simple, meaningful, and leaves space for what matters most—being present and celebrating your marriage in a way that feels true to you.
This Chicago City Hall elopement is a perfect example of how much you can experience in just a few hours.
After Andrew and Natalia’s City Hall ceremony, we spent the afternoon walking through downtown Chicago—moving slowly, following the light, and letting the city become part of their story.
City Hall ceremonies are short and sweet, but they never feel impersonal. Once the paperwork is signed and the vows are exchanged, you’re instantly stepping back into the rhythm of the city—newly married, no transitions needed.
That’s one of the biggest advantages of a City Hall wedding in Chicago: iconic photo locations are already right outside the doors.
From City Hall, we took a relaxed walking route through some of Chicago’s most recognizable spots:
No rigid timeline. No pressure. Just space to enjoy the day as it unfolds.
Aside from taking newlywed portraits at the Art Institute of Chicago, Andrew and Natalia decided to exchange vows there since the judge at City Hall does not give couples the option to do so during the quick ceremony. I love when my couples choose to do this at one of our planned locations because it adds more intimate moments in the story of their special day.
To wrap up the day, we Ubered north to the Viceroy Chicago, where the couple celebrated with cake, champagne, and portraits in their hotel room overlooking the Gold Coast.
This part of the day felt especially intimate—quiet moments, city views, and a reminder that elopements don’t have to be elaborate to be deeply meaningful.
City Hall elopements are beautifully simple, but there are a few logistics to keep in mind—especially if you’re planning portraits around the city afterward. I’ll be sharing a separate guide that breaks all of that down, including permits, timing, and location considerations.
